It is always hard to know where to begin when talking about myself and my work. I started painting lyrical color movements to Bach and Vivaldi at 5 years old during an extended illness. I won my first art competition the same year. I have spent most of my life pursuing careers in the arts as a graphic illustrator, graphic designer, art director, note card illustrator, artist co-op gallery director and muralist, in addition to being a wife and mother of three. Drawing and painting have grown into a passion for not only my own work, but incited a sincere appreciation for all types of visual art. I can spend hours combing the art museums here and wherever I travel, studying brush strokes, color juxtapositions and design characteristics. Gleaning from the masters, contemporary artists and everything in between, I have developed my own vocabulary of art. The work process is a reflection of life processes – the flux between too much and too little – an internal argument between control and letting go. In essence, my work mirrors my personal journey and struggle with life’s challenges. Every painting begins by telling a story or presenting an issue – few are earth shattering. Sometimes a work may merely be a meditation on a single moment. My paintings are an invitation to participate in ambiguous conclusions drawn from interaction, reaction and faith. |
