CYNDY CARSTENS

My evolution as an artist has been marked by profoundly personal moments of reaching for God’s light and love. My paintings are an expression of the tranquility and hope that I find in the ever-present play of light upon the transient and overwhelmingly beautiful world that surrounds us.

We walked into Cyndy’s studio in Old Town Scottsdale during a Thursday evening Artwalk. We were immediately struck by the vibrant colors of the painting Cyndy entitled “Windbreak.” The vast sky, the peaceful tree-lined home and warm natural setting of the painting continue to remind us of our visit out West.

No artist is more skilled than Cyndy Carstens at capturing the simple grandeur of the world around us. Cyndy reminds me daily of the richness and diversity of our sky, and how we too often take it for granted. Cyndy’s artistry reminds us what we are missing when we fail look up. And by capturing the complexity and outpouring of color above us, she brings the sky into my home each day for me to see and enjoy.

Sometimes the work of a particular Artist causes you to pause, to stare... But it's rare to find an Artist who deeply and consistently touches that sacred, unexplainable place inside and keeps their hold on us. Whether it's the sea, the sky, or the most intricate of abstraction, she causes the sweetest of reactions. Cyndy Carstens captivates.

Chuck D., New York, NY

I got to thinking about the art walk the other day and visiting you at your studio which always makes me grateful that we became friends. I also thought about the five paintings which we purchased from you and am still very happy to have them in my home. I think my favorite one is “Bathed in Light.” I look at it often as I do the other paintings. All of the paintings represent a special meaning in my life, at the time we bought them.

Melodie & David C., Chicago, IL

Cyndy Carstens’ painting “Attitudes” first caught my eye because of the striking contrast between the two sections.  Vivid sunset/sky/cloud colors on the left – black/white/charcoal palette on the right.  Why?  What did it mean?  And the vine connecting the two – what was that about?  Obviously, the painting spoke to me, because I went back and stood in front of it three times before deciding to purchase.  The bonus was getting to know Cyndy and know what was in her mind and heart as she created “Attitudes.”

Jo B., Peoria, AZ

Carstens’ paintings are full of dimension, big sky and amazing southwest colors. Her skill is obvious as one takes in the beauty of what her energy, combined with her brush, have gifted the canvas.  Carstens’ works of art allow the viewer permission to float away to a peaceful place of calm introspect.  Who among us would not welcome a time of quiet reflection into the majesty our world holds. I promise, you will be swept away by the evident passion her works emote.

Kelly B., Phoenix, AZ

Cyndy Carsten’s paintings are windows into viewers’ personal life journeys. Fragments of time, space and memories shift and coalesce in familiar locales with an element of the surreal. Her imaginative juxtaposition of objects and figures serve more as metaphors than literal depictions, and continuously engage the process of self-discovery.

Renee P., New York, NY

We have been drawn to Cyndy Carstens’ works from her published pieces in Phoenix Home & Garden Magazine and on the Scottsdale Art Walk. The simplicity of her work and effective use of vibrant and subtle colors makes us smile.
